SPENT!

The women of my day, forget what makes them priceless.
Your Louis bag, designer shoes and v.i.p don’t make you righteous!
I’ve been there and dropped it!
You only impress your foes. Greedy envy will lurk at your door!
You work really hard and still live poor!
You have bitches hatin, guys big facing, yet you’ll still yearn for more!

That’s because your hunger comes from some place deeper.
I had that bitch “material addict” and boy was it hard to keep her!
So i decided not to feed her!
She weighed too much on my conscience.
My wallet put her foot down, stated this shit was nonsense!

And so I let her go.
My soul was trying to explain to me, I had been sold.
I had been made a show!
I spent and I spent…until I could no mo’!
I took credit and debit and ragged them hoes to the floor!
And still they laughed when showing me my credit score!

Shit! What have I done???
I was in a battle with the jonses and sure enough they won!
Now I’m left with none!

The hood will rape your mentality.
Yup…your bills are late!
And when you finally went to pay them, you did that shit fashionably!!

What a fallacy!
Made a chic like me want to switch up drastically!

Understand we live with consequence…
Live life too frivolously, but to what extent?
Was it all worth the expense?

Think again before spending the next dollar!
When your knee deep in debt, your friends won’t even holla!
And those Louboutins won’t get you any farther!
They won’t earn you a degree or magically turn you into a scholar!

At the end….don’t impress anyone but yourself!
Your life is so much richer and you’re so much better,
Than anything on a shelf!

    1. You’re welcome Vanessa. I can appreciate a good writer when I see one. I love the poem and wanted to share it. I see so many women fall victim to exactly what you described and all at the expense of what?! You said it perfectly “You only impress your foes”…because your true friends and those who love you aren’t impressed by material things.

  2. What an amazing poem. It gets right down to the heart of the love of material things. Women put so much value on material possessions that they often overlook the qualities that they truly do possess. I loved it when you said “Think again before spending the next dollar!
When your knee deep in debt, your friends won’t even holla!
And those Louboutins won’t get you any farther!
They won’t earn you a degree or magically turn you into a scholar!”…very deep. Great work!
