Live Life & Be Happy!

Sometimes in life we convince ourselves that things will be better once we are married, have a baby, or own our own home. Then we get frustrated because our children are not old enough, and that all will be well once they get older. We then become frustrated because they reach adolescence and with teenagers you get an entirely new set of problems.  So we tell ourselves that we’ll be happier when they grow out of the teen years. I’m not a parent but I was a teenager and I know how much hell I caused my parents. It’s not easy raising kids.

We also tell ourselves that our life will be better when our spouse gets his/her act together, when we have a nicer car, when we can take a vacation, or when we finally retire. The truth is that there is no better time to be happy than right now.

Your life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy in spite of it all. For the longest time, it seemed that life was about to start. Real life.

But there was always some obstacle along the way, an ordeal to get through, some work to be finished, some time to be given, a bill to be paid. Then life would start. I finally came to understand that those obstacles were life.

That point of view helped me see that there isn’t any road to happiness. Happiness IS the road. So, enjoy every moment.

Stop waiting for school to end, for a return to school, to lose ten pounds, to gain ten pounds, for work to begin, to get married, for Friday evening, for Sunday morning, waiting for a new car, for your mortgage to be paid off, for spring, for summer, for fall, for winter, for the first or the fifteenth of the month, for your song to be played on the radio, to die, to be reborn… before deciding to be happy.

Happiness is a voyage, not a destination.

There is no better time to be happy than… NOW!

Live and enjoy the moment.

  1. Love it! An ex-boyfriend of mine died at the age of 21. We were broken up at the time of his death but we were still friends. We broke up because of distance. He lived in Alabama and I live in the Bronx. Anyhow, a long time had past since we had spoken and out of the blue he called me. He was a pure comedian so the conversation was all jokes…with the exception of one thing he blurted that had NOTHING to do with our conversation…he said “Just live life and be happy”. I thought it was unusual but continued the conversation as if he didn’t say it cause to me it was weird. He died a week after. I’ll never forget those words. Thank you for sharing this blog, Hartbreak. 🙂 It was a reminder of what he told me.

    1. Thanks for sharing that CurlySue…I guess it felt weird to you because I think most of us lose sight of just being happy in our lives. Its so simple yet we evade it like the plague. We are the navigators of our happiness. If something doesn’t make u happy we have the power to change it & I think we sometimes forget that.

  2. I’ll admit, from reading the beginning sentences of this blog, I thought it was going to be a negative view on life, but it actually turned out to be very positive! Thank you for writing it. It’s like the quote (I can’t recall who said it at the moment), “If you want to be happy, be.” Some people forget how easy it is to be happy, so I’m glad you wrote this post. Thank you!

    1. @ JA, I have so many blessings in my life that it is hard to be anything but happy. Even on my not so good days I still thank God for breathing another day of life into me and my family. People tend to forget to appreciate all of the little things in life. If they did they would experience much more happiness. Glad you liked the post and I did check out your blog. Very inspiring. You got yourself a new subscriber 🙂 Thanks for the comment!

  3. i agree, everyone should work as hard as possible to reach their goals without postponing the hard work that needs to be put into it. In all reality some people aren’t ready for the work that comes along with chasing a dream.

    1. @BAGSTHEBOSS I agree with your comment. If you really want something you have to be willing to work at it and be willing to accept failure. It is very rare that one will succeed their first try. You have to be persistent, learn from your mistakes and never lose focus. If you remember those 3 things then nothing is impossible and eventually you will accomplish your dream. Thanks for the comment.
