I spent  a small part of my afternoon making phone calls to our Federal and Local representatives to express my concern about Donald Trump’s appointment of Steve Bannon to his administration as his chief White House strategist and senior counselor. This is a powerful position in that Bannon will be the man with the president-elect’s ear.

Steve Bannon is a former investment banker who has no prior government experience and considering that neither does our newly elected President, this appointment could be catastrophic for our country. It is because of this that it is important for those of us who believe Bannon’s appointment is a huge mistake to call and write our local representatives and voice our concerns. This is the time to take action.

Though CALLING is the MOST EFFECTIVE way to communicate our concerns writing is also encouraged. When I called the offices of House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell their voicemail boxes were both full and consequently I wasn’t able to leave a message. I will try again tomorrow. Below I have provided a script you can follow when making your phone calls. You can find a list of resources for calling or writing to your Federal, State, & local leaders here.

Find the phone number to your Representatives and call them. This, more than any other action you take today, will have the most impact. The staffers will be obligated to answer and politely listen to you. Be kind, but be firm. If they can’t do anything else because they are answering the phones, the message will be heard.

I’m calling as a voting constituent, to express my concern over Trump’s selection of Steve Bannon as Chief Strategist. Trump has proclaimed that he plans to unite the nation, but with this selection we can plainly see that is not the case. Steve Bannon is a man who leads a website that promotes truly radical views about race and religion. His lack of governmental experience coupled with his ideologies is dangerous for this country and as such is unfit to advise America’s commander- in- chief. I call on Insert Government Official’s Name Here to publicly condemn Trump for putting such a divisive figure just steps from the Oval Office and work towards ensuring a more qualified individual is chosen.
