This year is almost over and right about this time is when many will start making resolutions about what they will or won’t do come the new year.
Stop it!!! Stop making resolutions and start taking action.
What if I told you that you don’t have to wait for January 1st to get your life going in the right direction? What if I told you that you can start making changes right now? The idea that we have to wait for the new year or for the “perfect time” (whatever that is) to start making changes is foolish. Every day, hour, minute, second we wait is another day, hour, minute, second wasted. Life is short and the best time to do anything is right now.
So many us are living mediocre, unfulfilled lives because we are afraid of actually living the life we are destined to live. We have subscribed to the belief that living passionately and purposely is not meant for us; that somehow living a great life is not something we are worthy of. How often have you started your day with the same routine? When was the last time you actually gave thought to what you were doing and why you were doing it? When was the last time you did something that you truly enjoy, something that was just for you and nobody else?
We have become a society so accustomed to putting the needs of others before our own that in doing so have become comfortable in neglecting our own desires, needs, and wants. The time has come to start putting yourself first. While we do indeed have certain obligations that we cannot completely ignore we have to learn how to align our responsibilities with the things we are passionate about.
Nothing is worse than looking back on your life and realizing you lived your life for everyone but yourself. Changing the way you do things can be the ultimate determinant of whether or not you will change your life for the better and the sooner you realize that the power is in your hands, the sooner you can transform.
If you are ready to start living the life you have always imagined for yourself, here are some tips to get you refocused and moving in the right direction right now.
Stop making excuses. If there is something you want to do, do it! Life is short and tomorrow may never come. The sooner you stop making excuses and start giving yourself permission to do the things you’ve always wanted the happier and more fulfilled you will be. If money is a factor for what you want to do then create a budget and carve out $10, $5, or even $1 and set up a “Follow My Dream” fund. Every time you get paid or get some extra money contribute to your fund and before you know it you will have the money to do that thing you want to do or buy that item you’ve been eyeing. Whatever you want to do is possible if you plan, budget, and execute. Excuses are dream killers and the more you make them the unhappier you will be.
Start being intentional. If you really want to start living a meaningful and fulfilled life you have to stop “going with the flow” and start living intentionally. You have to be conscious of what you are investing your time and energy in. Not everything is worthy of your attention. What you do or don’t do is based on decisions and choices you make. The more intentional you are with your choices the less time you will spend on meaningless activities. You don’t have to compromise, be someone you’re not, or make choices out of alignment with your authentic self. You can make positive choices for yourself and your life that give you energy and make you happy. In short, stop living to make other people happy and do what makes you happy.
Believe it’s possible. One of the most difficult things to get passed when attempting to go after our dreams is the idea that the realization of our dreams isn’t possible for us. It is easier to believe that it can happen to someone else than it is to believe that it can happen to us. If you want to accomplish anything in life the first step to achieving it is believing that it can and will happen. As soon as we get out of own way and really trust in our abilities to make things happen that is when the Universe begins to work with us in making sure that what we want materializes. Believe in the power you have to make things happen.
Scientists used to believe that humans responded to information flowing into the brain from the outside world. But today, they’re learning that instead we respond to what the brain, based on previous experience, expects to happen next. In fact, the mind is such a powerful instrument, it can deliver literally everything you want. But you have to believe that what you want is possible.
Surrounding yourself with the right people. The people who make up our inner circle have a huge effect on our lives, even without us realizing it. If you’re constantly surrounded by negative Nellys and dream killers it will influence your ability to stay focused on your dreams whenever you encounter an obstacle. Negative energy is contagious and you want to keep negativity as far away from you as possible. Instead, make sure you surround yourself with individuals who have dreams of their own. They will motivate and inspire you and keep you focused on your own dreams. Think about the life you want to lead, the job you want to have and the outlook on life that you prefer and find other people who either want or have those things. It’s even better to surround yourself with people who have what you already want so that you push yourself harder to achieve those same things.
The time is now. If you are serious about beginning to live the life of your dreams right now, take some time to sit with and answer the following questions: Who am I? What is my unique purpose? What makes me jump out of bed in the morning? Conduct a moral inventory – what is out of alignment in your life? Do you compromise who you are in order to make other people comfortable? Once you get clear on who you really are and why you do what you do you can take the necessary actions to change. Stop living for everyone else and start living the life you deserve!
