Nancy Arroyo Ruffin is a writer, mama, wife, and motivational speaker. Her work has been cited and published in various online magazines and literary journals such as Duende Literary Journal, Poets & Writers, For Harriet, Elephant Journal, CentroVOICES, Moms Magazine, MUTHA Magazine among others. She is a 2011 & 2012 Cave Canem Workshop participant, a 2014 VONA fellow and a 2014 International Latino Book Award recipient for her sophomore collection of poetry Letters to My Daughter (CreativeInk Press, 2013). She is also the author of Welcome to Heartbreak (CreativeInk Press 2011) & Coming Undone (CreativeInk, 2014). The anthology De Donde Vengo Yo (CreativeInk 2015) written by the students of Christ the King Elementary School, which she edited is the recipient of the 2015 International Latino Book Award recipient for Best Book Written by a Youth. Is it Ever a Good Idea To Go From Friends to Lovers?

When it comes to men and women just being friends I think that somewhere along the line the man, woman, or both begin to the see the other in a way that they may not have seen them initially. Meaning that during the time that the friendship develops, both individuals are learning about each other in a much deeper and honest way than you would learn about a potential partner. Because you’re relationship is at the friendship level, none of the pressure to ‘impress” each other exists. This allows you to let your guard down and really be yourself. But what you don’t realize at the time is that the overlap in what we want from both friends and partners is significant.

When you think about all the joys and pains, and fears, and laughter that comes with years of friendship your once so-called best friend can become your worst enemy.
